I was one of the few who had not caught up on Andy Weir‘s novels since being enthralled (as many were) with The Martian. So when I first saw the trailer for this film my initial reaction was “well that’s just The Martian with aliens”… and while that was a fair “at first blush” reaction on the surface…. Once you sit down and absorb the story, the structure, the characters. It’s so so much more. Project Hail Mary is a spiritual successor to the Martin, certainly and rightfully so. The DNA is there. But the journey you are taken on over the course of the film is astoundingly beautiful in its own way. A story of camaraderie, hope, and the human condition. One that is filled with impactful characters and pure moments that will completely and utterly move you. A truly meaningful work of cinematic art. Emotional, intellectual, entertaining, dramatic and comedic. There isn’t a single drop of creativity wasted. Nor beat unexplored. This is story telling at its finest. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s
